Recreation and Relaxation

One of the main reasons for taking a cruise is the opportunity to rest, relax, and play.

The Nieuw Amsterdam offers many opportunities for rest, relaxation and recreation described elsewhere including restaurants, bars and lounges, theaters and stages, plus sports and exercise.

But there are some additional spots for recreation and relaxation that didn't fit the above categories.

Recreation and Relaxation Venues

The Retreat (forward Deck 11 - Observation Deck) has private cabaƱas (at a significant additional fee) where you can take it easy, sheltered from wind and sun, enhanced with waiter service for your beverage needs to enjoy the beautiful sea views. To see photos, click the button.


The Library (forward starboard side Deck 3 - Promenade Deck) offers a quiet spot to read and relax along with hundreds of books available to borrow. In addition, it offers a daily trivia quiz, the New York Times Crossword, and a daily Sudoku. To see hours and photos, click the button.


The Art Studio (forward port side Deck 11 - Observation Deck adjacent to The Crow's Nest), is a spot for classes in painting and crafts. To see photos, click the button.


Game Room (forward starboard side Deck 11 - Observation Deck in The Crow's Nest) has jigsaw puzzles, board games, Sjoelen, and more. To see photos, click the button.


During the day, High Score (midships port side Deck 10 - Panorama Deck) is the teen portion of the Kid's Club. But from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, it's open to all. You can play everything from video games to skee ball to foosball to air hockey to pinball. And it's all free.
